Furnishing Hope

Refurnishing Homes. Rebuilding Hope. Together.

So many families exhaust their resources repairing their home, with little left over for furnishings. Through donated furniture, trusted partnerships, and prayerful care, families take their next step in long-term recovery—turning a house back into a home.

After disaster strikes, many families return to empty houses.

Survivors often come home to bare rooms—no beds to sleep in, no tables to gather around, no appliances to cook a meal. Furnishing Hope steps into this critical gap, providing donated furniture and essentials so families can truly come home again.

What Began as a Phone Call Became a Movement of Hope.

Six months after Hurricane Florence, Christ In Action began calling survivors in New Bern, NC. We prayed with families, listened to their stories, and asked what they needed most. Many had walls and roofs again — but their homes were still empty. No beds to sleep in. No tables to gather around. No appliances to cook a meal. Families were living in bare rooms, waiting for life to feel whole again.

In that moment, God opened the door for something new. That same year, CIA moved into a 40,000 sq. ft. warehouse — the perfect place to collect and store donated furniture, appliances, and essentials. We put out a call to churches, individuals, and local businesses, and truckloads of goods began to pour in. With the help of our host church, those donations reached families in need. What began as a phone call turned into a movement — and Furnishing Hope was born.

How Furnishing Hope Works

While some supplies, such as food and water, are needed immediately after a storm, residents are not ready for furniture for six to twelve months after a major disaster—sometimes longer. We follow up with individuals after six months and stay in contact with churches and organizations serving on the ground, so we know when the timing is right to begin Furnishing Hope in a community. When families are ready, here’s how Furnishing Hope helps restore comfort, stability, and hope.

  • We gather new and gently used furniture, appliances, and essentials. Every bed, sofa, and table given is a step toward helping families rebuild daily life with dignity and comfort.

  • We work hand in hand with local churches and long-term recovery teams. These trusted partners help us identify families in need and ensure that hope lasts long after the trucks drive away.

  • With the help of caring volunteers, truckloads of donated goods are transported to communities recovering from crisis. Each delivery is more than furniture — it’s a reminder that families are not forgotten.

STORIES

Mountaintop Church — A Community Restored in Asheville, NC

When Hurricane Helene tore through western North Carolina, the mountain town of Asheville faced widespread flooding and destruction. Months later, after families had rebuilt their homes and were finally ready to return, many still faced rooms stripped bare—walls repaired, but spaces empty and appliances destroyed. The storm had passed, yet daily life had not fully returned to normal.

That’s when Christ In Action’s Furnishing Hope program rolled in. Partnering with Mountaintop Church, volunteers delivered truckloads of donated furniture and household essentials to help families begin again. Beds were assembled, couches carried in, and tables set where families could gather once more.

In a single day, empty houses became homes again. What began as a truckload of furniture became a symbol of unity and hope for a community still healing.

Your support makes stories like this possible. Together, we’re not only furnishing houses—we’re furnishing hope.

“We were so thankful for the Furnishing Hope delivery of furniture and household items—so thankful we were able to meet the needs of so many people in our community. The furniture was so nice; people were so very pleased. It was a tool for us to bring the community together, and we could not have done it without the help of Christ In Action. They made it so easy for us to help our community in this way.”

— Lead Pastor Masco Settles, Mountaintop Church, Asheville, NC

When the rebuilding ends, the restoring begins.
