What Christ In Action Does in Disaster Relief

From chainsaws to chaplaincy, every deployment meets both physical and spiritual needs

  • Clearing fallen trees, limbs, and debris from homes, driveways, and properties.

  • Using skid steers, lifts, and other machinery to move large debris and restore access.

  • Disaster recovery doesn’t end when the debris is cleared. Through our Furnishing Hope program, we help families turn empty houses back into homes filled with comfort, dignity, and Christ’s love.

  • Equipping adults from across the country—including church teams and community groups—to serve safely and effectively through orientation and specialized training.

  • Mobilizing and equipping local churches in affected areas so the impact continues long after CIA leaves.

  • Offering prayer, compassionate listening, and walking with survivors and volunteers through trauma. This is what makes every deployment ministry-first.

STORIES

Vivian, 73 — A Widow’s Faith After the Storm

When Hurricane Irene swept through Dare County, North Carolina, Vivian returned to find her home surrounded by seagrass and her garage filled with water. The car she had left behind was destroyed, and nearly everything inside was lost. Recently widowed, she faced the devastation alone—unsure where to begin.

Within an hour of calling for help, Christ In Action volunteers were on their way. They cleared debris, removed ruined belongings, and helped restore her sense of order. But more than that, they reminded her she wasn’t forgotten. They prayed with her, listened to her story, and stood as living proof of God’s promise never to leave nor forsake her.

Through tears, Vivian said, “These people are proof that God comes through just when you need Him most.”

Your support helped do more than clean out a flooded garage. It renewed a widow’s faith and reminded her she wasn’t alone.

Vivian went home to be with the Lord four years after the storm, but her story continues to touch lives. Each year, her family shares this testimony as a reminder of God’s faithfulness — and we continue to share it too, celebrating the lasting impact of hope in action.

“I thank God for people who have the love of God in their hearts.”

“Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ.”
