Why Serve with Christ In Action
Every act of service has the power to change a life. As a CIA volunteer, you bring hope. Whether you serve at our Headquarters or deploy with us on a disaster site, every hour you give makes a difference in someone's life. This isn’t just disaster relief—it’s ministry in action.
Every Willing Heart Has a Place
No matter your age, background, or skill set, if you’re willing, you’re needed here.
More Than Help — It’s Hope
Every act of service at HQ or in the field is integral to bringing hope.
Equipped and Supported
From training to safety gear, we prepare and walk with you every step of the way.
“Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms.”
— 1 Peter 4:10
2024 VOLUNTEER IMPACT
GOD AT WORK
What God can do through your service is greater than you imagine. Every hour given, every meal served, every prayer offered reminds families they are not forgotten and that Christ’s love is near. In the process, volunteers themselves are changed, discovering the power of faith in action.
Impact by the Numbers.
+ 269 families served
+ 443 people trained to serve
+ 31,208 volunteer hours given
+ 480 volunteers mobilized
Every number tells a story of hope restored. Behind each hour served and family reached are volunteers who showed up with open hearts—turning compassion into action and faith into tangible change.

Serve All Year Long
Disasters aren’t the only time we need helping hands. Every week at CIA’s HQ, volunteers play a vital role — maintaining vehicles, repairing equipment, organizing supplies, and supporting the mission through office and communications work. These behind-the-scenes acts of service may not be on the frontlines, but they are the backbone that makes fast, effective deployments possible and ensures families receive help and hope when they need it most.
Because of your hands here, hope goes there.

STORIES
John Urban, Survivor & Volunteer — Paying It Forward After the Storm
When the 2015 Memorial Day flood swept through Wimberley, Texas, John and his family lost nearly everything. Five feet of water filled their home, destroying furniture, walls, and memories. For days, John stood among the ruins, unsure where to begin.
Then a man in a red shirt walked up and asked, “What’s your name?”
That man was Christ In Action’s founder, Denny Nissley. Within hours, the CIA team began tearing out soaked walls and clearing debris. By the end of the day, John’s home was stripped clean — ready for rebuilding. “We’re not going to call this a tragedy anymore,” John told his family that night. “This is going to be a blessing.”
Two years later, when Hurricane Harvey hit Corpus Christi, John kept his promise to pay it forward. He put on his own red shirt and joined Christ In Action on deployment.
His time serving others reminded him that hope often begins with a helping hand — and that every act of service can turn tragedy into a blessing.
