National Preparedness Month

September is National Preparedness Month. This is a great opportunity to make sure your are ready personally in the case of a natural disater - even if it's not a hurricane or tornado - it could something as simple as a downed tree and a resulting power outage. Make a point this September to help prepare yourself and your family to safely survive whatever crisis might come your way.

Have you made a Ready Plan for your family?

How will you contact loved ones after a crisis when cell towers may be down and power is out?

Are you signed up for Wireless Emergency Alerts?

Have you planned and practiced fire drills at home?

Do you have a go bag? Is it fully packed?

 

 

Once you've prepared your family, consider how you might be able to reach out in your community. In times of crisis people need Hope as much as they need practical help. The time to get trained and connected with opportunities to assist your neighbors is before there's a crisis! It's not just times when the whole community is devastated that people need help. It may be a single house fire or a colleague going through a personal crisis. Do you know how to help them?

Have you had Critical Incident Stress Management (CISM) training?

Will you take a Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) training?

Will you volunteer with local emergency services to assist your local area?

Do you know what resources are available to assist people in your state?

Does your church or business have an emergency plan in place?
